1. Who according to you is greater- a person who behaves with the poor with decency, or the one who is supposedly an ardent follower of God but treats people like dirt?
2. Who according to you should be respected in the Society- Someone who treats his bahu beti with respect, or someone who abuses his bahu beti under the same roof where they have performed yagnas?
3. Who would you tolerate- Someone who is an atheist but abides with the law and social mores, or the one who goes to every temple existing in the city but does not abide with the law.
4. What would you do if a girl is abused/beaten or burnt in front of your eyes- Would you go to protect her, or just close the windows and doors saying that it is her KARMA and she has to bear it.
I know you would agree to the part which is marked in red. But sadly, major part of the society would not agree with us.
I am angry...angry because no matter what some GOOD spiritual leaders teach, society is filled with hypocrisy. These GOOD spiritual leaders teach their followers to love everyone...serve everyone...but why is it that we distinguish people on the basis of caste, religion, economic status etc? Why do we tell a mom who brings her mentally challenged son along to stay away from the bhajans? Why differentiate between a madrasi and a non madrasi, a gujarati and a non- gujarati? Why play politics in a spiritual group? Why be so selfish? Why this narrow mindedness? Why this pretension of being holier than thou when there is nothing holy in your acts?
Someone told me...its better to be an atheist and be a good human rather than being an ardent devotee of God and doing all the wrong things exiting under the sun. Do good acts, thats any day better than merely singing praises of God and doing wrong things.
There's one thing I want to ask these Leaders or so-called god too: When an individual is wrong, is it not your duty to correct them or are you plain scared that your followers would run away and not fund your ventures???
Whoa!! tere se aisa serious post expct nahi kiya tha!!
ReplyDeleteAnd I agree..its better to be an atheist and be a good human rather than being an ardent devotee of God and doing all the wrong things !
Before I start my comment, let me say, I endorse your views completely. Having been put to bed listening to stories of valor, bravery, love, sacrifice, honor, etc in my childhood, I am a strong believer of everything in red... I once read a line in a book that went something like "There are 3 lives that he led. A public life - for his fans, A personal life - for his close friends and family, and a private life - a life that only he knew about...."
ReplyDeleteThis is true of real life as well... esp of the so-called 'leaders' that you mention in your post.
Love the passion in this one. Is it wrt a specific incident?
And when it comes to a lot of things, ppl may agree with the part in red, but you are right in saying, when it comes to actually act, they will quickly find caste, creed and color to come in the way of something good!!
ReplyDeleteAlways...! better 2 be a good human being, than a spiritual human being using it as a shield to do the wrong things.
ReplyDeleteThere is no short cut.One has to be just a good human being.
ReplyDeleteWhat is the definition of a good human being will depend upon individual mind set, upbringing, environment.
It is a great post and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.
well said. this society is filled with hypocracy. people will pay lakhs of rupees to these fake god-men but will not give 2 rupees to an old beggar giving reasons dat da beggar will get used to it. so wat? arent u making da fake thugs depend on ur money? dese thugs charge thousands of rupees for blessing their devotees. and it hurts even more wen dese so-called well educated people stop believing in humanity
ReplyDeleteHello, :)
ReplyDeleteA really nice blog you have here.
You just about summed up the exact thoughts that continuously run around in my mind. I use my blog to write on very similar topics, so maybe you'd like to visit and have a look.
You'll find me visiting your blog regularly now. Do keep writing. :)
Well, everyone would agree with the part in red. But how many will act that way when such situation arises? And being good...its relative. One thing for sure is you cant please everyone.
ReplyDeleteWhat I believe is even if you cant be good, at least dont try to be bad!
Through provoking post.
Nothing more to say after Insignia has posted her comment.. Totally agree with her..
ReplyDeletei second Insignia too..i was thinking of the same thing while reading your post..this problem of hypocrisy is rooted very deeply..all most do is to be a spectator!
ReplyDeletehehehe shanu tere jaise unpredictable ho gayi hoon :)
ReplyDeletehi eye in sty in...yes this post was a result of some incident that happened before my eyes...its really sad that people listen to sermons like we should do good to the society etc but rarely does anyone follow it.
Thanks Anita for supporting my views :)
Thank u Chwala Sir...agreed the definition of good human being varies from situation to situation, person to person...but then casteism, racism, religious differences are something I cannot stand and I feel that these spiritual leaders should put some sense into the people.
i know sangi...its a shame that our so-called educated people are illogical and believe in all wrong stuffs such as spending lakhs on some yagnas. Its fine to believe in god and his sermons, its ok to spend money but please dont be selfish when it comes to helping someone.
Hi shobhit, thanks for visiting my blog. Shall visit your space soon :) thanks and welcome to my blog.
I agree insignia that we can't really please everyone...but then I can't stand the inhuman nature and double standards of the people who proudly call themselves a follower of some guru (who propagates humanity etc)
Thanks Prasad :)
@neha...as u rightly said we are all mute spectators...donno y.
G3, aapne hume soch mein daal diya...such a 'meaningful' nonsense from u, r u ok?
ReplyDeletenonsense ka tag kyon lagaya?
Hi vinnie...yes am fine :) ekdum serius non sense tha naa...kya karoon cant help it ;-)
ReplyDeletehiii
ReplyDeleteya right, but why r u so frustrated achanack se??
read 'Vidur Neeti' lately kya?? seems so!
... But the big question is who decide whether the so called spritual leader are correct ... most of them are "dongi baba" - i don't believe in them ... my simply funda is "if u can't do good - don't do bad"
ReplyDeletehmmm who in particular? i know!... well to me i just believe in God as faith, love in these forms... well i totally endorse your views! and second Bindu opinion. I'll tell yu wat
ReplyDeletehttp://heritage-key.com/blogs/prad/wembleys-new-%C2%A316-million-hindu-temple-built-using-ancient-methods
check this link, a temple that costs 16 million£ , well yu can let half the starving children in India a meal!
Oh yess the red ones are the ideal choices.. but as you mentioned it seldom happens.. but what to do..
ReplyDeleteThese so GOd men are made to be GOD by us..
I get mad because being a SIKH our religion tells us that we are not supposed to do some things like preying to a idol or picture or any god man , touching there feet blah blah blah.. BUT BUT i would say 80% of the so called SIKHs and even BAPTISED sikhs do the same .. They worship a MAN/WOMAN.. Now thats the first rule of sikhism.. yet we dont ..
I am not much into religion but I do what pleases me ..
A good article Gayathri Jiiiiiiiiiiii :)
what i think is the GOD whosoever he/she is would want us to be good at heart, Good human beings .. I ma sure a GOOD GOD would not mind us NOT following them but be a good.
Thats what I think dont know right or wrong... but i try to follow that .. Nothing can be more fruitful then seeing a smile on a face of a person whom you dont even know .. just because you said hello to them or asked them How they were ... EASY PEASY...
hi AS nahi rey...i have never read vidur neeti...actually this post stemmed from my frustration towards the stupid behavior of some bhakts.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sharmila and welcome to my blog. Rightly said: "if u can't do good - don't do bad"
thanks hary for sharing this link with me. Seriusly how can they spend so much on a temple. No doubt it looks wonderful, but an amount such as this is really shocking.
I liked what u wrote Bikram: GOD whosoever he/she is would want us to be good at heart, Good human beings ..
I fully agree with this line written by u :)
Gurucharan Das's "Difficulty of being good" is what I recommend!
