I had written a blog just a while ago…but one of my friends told me to delete it. Why? I asked her…she said coz my friend I don’t want to see you in jail for criticizing politicians so openly just when the elections are happening. So had to delete it as even I did not want to go to jail (though our constitution has given me freedom of speech and expression, I will curb it for now).
So like a nice good girl (which I hate to be), I changed my subject.
Two days back when I was coming towards my home from office, I happened to see a lot of kids on streets. I wondered what it is. Why are there suddenly so many kids on the streets? When I went home and asked my mom, she reminded me that it’s April and its summer vacations for them. Lucky they I thought to myself.
Summer vacations reminded me of those fun filled days. I and my friends would play non-stop from morning to night. Kabbadi, cycle race, badminton, cricket and yes powerpuff girls and Scooby doo cartoons on cartoon network. God those three months were always the best time of the year. We were so innocent…no conceit, no jealousy…yes some random kiddish fights…but that was it.
Today as I get up early in the morning to get ready to board the 9.00 train, I think of all those kids who would be sleeping away to glory till 12.00 in the noon. As my boss comes and asks my colleague the cricket scores…I am reminded of those kids who might be having fun watching IPL matches non-stop. Today as I am busily banging my head on the PC and tearing my hair apart while designing a newsletter, I am reminded of those kids who might be playing badminton and kho-kho now oblivious of recession and inflation.
How I wish I never grew up. How I wish I had a time machine and could travel back to those stress-free, fun-filled days. How I wish…how I wish.
Alright…I do not have any conclusion. It was just a random thought from my nearly dead brain. Though I would anyday love to back to my childhood days…I like this current stage of life too, because I do not have to ask for my parent’s permission to eat roadside panipuris nor do I have to ask them for money to watch a latest flick. I can do it on my own. I am independent atleast on that front now.
Nice :)
ReplyDeleteWhenever I eat pani puris or go for movies I think just the same..
That I can do all this on my own now ... in one way it is exhilarating.. and in one way its saddening..
Dependence is also wonderful in so many ways.. When you know you can buy pani puri or have a lavish buffet without being accountable to anybody.. there is no thrill in it..
I used to enjoy the hard earned "Joy ice creams" (hard earned cos it took a lot of pleading and pleasing ;)) much more than all the advanced and gorgeous looking ice creams available now.. Or maybe it is the memories which is adding that extra flavour :)
Anyways.. just go back to those old days once in a while.. it is fun..
And regarding your first two paras..
You can write your opinion .. opinions are fine as long as you state it is your opinion..
i.e. you can say that in your opinion politicians like Mr. X are goondas who have no regard for democracy and judiciary..
But if you say mr. X has no regard for democracy and judiciary it becomes libel/defamation...
You might know this already.. just in case :)
heyyy
ReplyDeletethough I miss my childhood days a lot.......and I desperately wish for a time machine..but I feel every age has its own flavor, we should fully enjoy every passing day .....and never let the kid inside us die :)
Hmm.. childhood.. always brings a smile on everyone's face..
ReplyDeleteBTW, did u read the article abt how Rubina's (Latika of the Slumdog Millionaire fame) dad wanted to sell her off for 1.8 crores? would childhood bring a smile on her face 10-12 years hence? she's just one among the million who's identity is lost in this world...
I sound depressing. sorry.
I know. What if we bought the Pani Puri today with our earnings and travelled in our time machine to enjoy the same with other kids ?
ReplyDeleteAs a child we were creative...we looked at everything with awe and were able to look at things differently because we did not "brand" like what we do now as adults. Also we were not afraid of failures...we just kept on trying....so we were never frustrated....(and wrote poetry)
Who said we "grew" up as adults ????
Nice light hearted post :) .. Yeah childhood is always special and irreplaceable... still remember the mad rush to the ice cream waala bhayya for the 1 Rupee ka ice cream (i doubt if kids today go any less than Baskin Robbins!! :P) after a game of kabaddi in hot sun :) ... the howls and growls hurled by mom dear for running away in hot afternoon to play ( i remember a few spanks frm dad too on this issue!!!).. not to forget those stories and loris at grandmom's place during a visit :).. how much i miss those days ..
ReplyDeletethnx for bringing back the memories dear!..
P.S : Now it will be so impossible to work @ office after reading the post :( . I NEED SUMMER VACATIONS!! ( can u recommend it to ma Boss plzz! ) haha!!
cheers!
rammy
You played day long non-stop Kabaddi as a kid? Interesting!!!
ReplyDeleteWell, swept with the nostalgic wave now are you? I can understand how you feel about having to be a grown- up . How I wish I had not grown up too. You know as a kid, I was extremely cute looking, poles apart from my current grotesque Frakenstein waala appearence. All my elder sister's friends used to ruffle my hair and pull my cheeks, saying "Owww coochie coochie such a sweet little kid". That was then. But now, as a grown up , ah *sigh* never mind. How I wish I'd never grown up.
Whenever I visit my folks at home, even now, I still make it a point to ask for money from dad to buy a Dairy Milk or eat pani-puri. Dad always angrily mutters "And just how many thousands do you earn per month you moron", before breaking into a smile and slamming a ten rupee note into my outstretched palm.
Its good to be grown up. But still, in a remote corner of the mind, the child in you will always be alive!
Cheers, G3! Nice post.
A.S has worded it perfectly in his/her comment above.
ReplyDeleteAnd that is a nice cat in the pic. Meowwwwww... purr away kitty....
Do you have a cat, G3 ?
@layman....firstly let me welcome u with a big HIIIII. I thought u disappeared into thin air...thank god u have not. I agree dependence has it's own charm...i still remember those days when i would do all the things possible to get 5 rs from mummy to buy cadbury dairymilk. Man what an awesome time that was.
ReplyDelete@AS yes yaar...one must never the child in us to die...i am still kiddish and am way too proud of it.
@rum...yaa i read about rubina's case, man that was really bad...how could a father do this...the girl must be going through such a trauma. She must be repenting for acting in slumdog...
@unknown, sadly freedom to speech and expression has been now restricted. Thanks for those links...though I am itching to blast those politicians...i am keeping mum...childhood days are the best days of life i agree.
@shivlingam, if there was a time machine i would have taken all my current savings and would have gone back to my childhood days...the amount that i find insufficient now would have sufficed for my entire childhood.
@rammy...there must be a law stating that like kids, even adults should have summer vacations if not for 3 months...atleast for 1 whole week. That would have been so much of fun :)
@parikshith...firstly i don't have cats...i have cockroaches and mosquitoes...if u want, i will deliver a few to ur place. Let me know if u want them :)
Secondly, i played kabbadi once...but i did oscar winning nautanki when i injured myself. Since then everyone has out a lifetime ban on me :,( yes and i agree with u too, it's good to grow up...but its even more better to keep that child in u alive...life seems wonderful only when you keep the kid in u alive.
Ok,Rub Rub Rub...let me start again
ReplyDeleteFirst we take the time machine for a ride in to 2050. Some crazy (great)scientist has invented a remote contol for kids. We take that & come back to present & take all our money and ride back in time to when we were kids.
When Daddy shouts "STUDY" make the volume button in our remote low...result we hear a melodious "study".. When mummy brings us something nice to eat from the kitchen we press "rewind". When teacher asks for homework we press "fast forward". When we are tasting pani puri and see our father coming back from office we press "pause" so we can enjoy the pani puri....When teacher gives us a report card we press "stop" ...now u see why the scientist was "great"?
Childhood was for me cartoons, video games, catch 'n cook, runnina after ice-cream waala, countless 'sip-ups', football, cricket (sigh!)
ReplyDeleteAgreed that adulthood has its perks but every once in a while i sure wish i could 'return to innocence'.
Carefree and HAPPY :)
Thanks for the jog down memory lane.
P.S. My first time: hi!!!
Don't want to be a prude but
"I and my friends would play" as you would very well know should be "My friends and I".
It so happened that Scooby Doo was mentioned in the same sentence and when i pondered for an instant reminiscing i noticed this 'grammatical' deviation ;)
Please don't mind.
Cheers! Keep 'em coming!
@DPhatsez...hahaha i felt like u were my english teacher teaching me grammar (i used to play 'x' and 'zero' with my classmates during english classes)...refer to my intro...my grammatical errors are way too much :)
ReplyDeleteBut thanks for pointing out those galtiyaan
ahem. write about what you want to write about. never delete ....well, of course, no one can say anything about anyone anywer..but still...u can use a diplomatic approach..
ReplyDeleteyup.i miss my childhood (that statement subjected to a conroversy, i am still a child, so some say.) newa..growing up has its share of fun too..:)
thanx for dropping by my blog..:) after finishing ma exams i will be going thru the rest of the posts k...liked the titles of some..:)
cheers!
hey Gayathri...did u hear about that Barkha Dutt of NDTV who sued a blogger for his comments on her 26/11 terror handling...there is no such thing as freedom of speech if the media itself curbs it ...
ReplyDeletenice post about childhood carefree days!! i remmebered mine playing own inventions like shark-shark, cockroach island with the other kids all equally innocent n forgetful:)
the funny thing is when we were younger we wore masks that could be seen, but now we wear masks that r invisible n keep changing as per who is in front of us!
