Govinda and our neglected constituency...

Year 2004: The North Constituency of Mumbai (I stay in one of it's regions) was handed over to Govinda.

No, no not the almighty. How I wish he had handled our constitutency, we would have been one of those divine places of India. I would have shamelessly cashed on it's popularity.
But I am talking about the famous Bollywood actor Govinda. You know the one who wears red shirts, yellow pants, has sparkling white teeth, dances as if some cockroach has entered his pants and most importantly who acts in movies that ends with the suffix no.1...like Hero no.1, Jodi no.1, Coolie no.1 and so on. Still did not get the clue?? oki well he looks like this:
Yes this man took over our constituency. He defeated one of the most respectable man in politics, Shri. Ram Naik by a margin of some 5,0000 odd votes.
Sangi (she's my siamese twin strictly by behaviour only) and I were damn happy. Yes we were one of those Govinda loyalists who would never miss any of his brainless flick. To feel like 'One among his loyalists', we used to go to singleplex theaters and buy a stall kaa ticket and sit in any of the front two rows. We would whistle just like the other tapori men when Govinda would come face to face with Kader Khan or when songs such as the following would play:

So much so that Sangi and I tried those steps too. But that was when we were school kids. We have grown out of that phase.
Back to year 2004: We were doing our graduation, but then we still rooted for him. Afterall, he was aam janta kaa favorite. He was what Rajnikant was for South. Congress was smart enough to take him in their party, afterall Congress kaa haath jo tha Aam aadmi ke saath. He smartly banked on his popularity among Singleplex movier goers (there were many at that time despite the proliferation of Multiplexes in the city) and his Virar kaa Chokra image (He travelled in the dirty, crowded 2nd class compartments of a Virar Bound train to show how concerned he is about his people) and won the votes.
We had expected a lot from him. Anyways his filmi career was going nowhere. So we thought like Sunil Dutt he too would give his time to our constituency. But sadly, we were wrong. Five years have passed, we have been let down terribly. We thought he would be there helping us during the 26\7 floods, but no he was safely residing in his Juhu house not even showing remote concern for us. One of his region Jogeshwari was ripped apart on 11th July 2006 serial train blast...but again he was nowehere to be seen. The hero of the masses is now no more a hero in our eyes. Recently, I read that he has used 91% of the funds allocated to him. But sadly, I can see no improvement as such in and among my regions. Now I wonder where the money has gone?
Year 2009: Govinda has still not got the ticket. He says he is not interested. I am a abhineta not a neta he says. Whatever, I have decided now to cast vote to only those people who will respect the time and patience I have put to vote them and utilize the funds allocated for us in some good way. Till then, I leave you with yet another awesome song of Govinda, mind you...I still love that song:

  1. Lol!!! u remember his super slumber jokes and jazzed dresses!! all tapori style..hehe.. i'm sure he might have been a stand up comedian in the the Assembly(Well thats if he actually goes there anytime!). As far as i see ,the only advantage that Apne netas might be having is prolly getting phhukat ke phillum tikkats... Any ways the roles of of netas are no lesser than acting you see. Sometimes they even better seasoned actors while delivering those long boring unrealistic speeches full of false promises. So convincing that the gullible "AAM AADMI" falls for it! I wonder in days to come, leaders wil have acting as alternate profession and vice versa! ( i'm sure apna laloo will be a massive hit!) ..
Jokes apart, it has become so much more important for the youth of today to exercise the vote in the most chaste manner. Its only with this vote can we show the rotten ones the door and let the good ones come in.
Aao hum use vote de jo desh ko chahta hai :) ....

P.S : i hope u also know know about that 49-0 clause that we can exercise if we find that none of the candidates is worthy enough for a vote. Be vigilant and decide for the best :)

    Good Post ..keep writing.

P.S again: Between i also liked those two videos too!!( Now though they look Extremely FUNNY! :P)

    cheers!

  2. Pak Chik Pak raja babu.. wohahahah.. what a song that was. You've made me nostalgic. Pak Chik Pak raja babu was one of my favorites.. right up there with Mozart and Beethoven's symphonies. :-)

Imagining you and your friend dancing and whistling from the stall (ishtall) ka front row, has me in splits!

So, are the babus deciding to field Johnny Lever instead of Govinda this time?

Despite the irony, this is a hilarious post! Way to go, G3. :-)

  3. I consider actors contesting elections akin to cricket stars showing up on the dance floors like Ganguly did in one of his advertisement campaigns years ago. I mean, its utter non-sense. Actors should stick to acting. I would personally never vote for a film star or a cricket star because most of the times, chances are that he/she would not know how to run his/her constituency. And if they are really committed to join politics, they should have the guts to quit their respective professions altogether.

Govinda winning the elections last time was a headline joke and not news to me. He only joined politics to further his sagging film career. Now that he has a few films in his kitty, he is not interested in politics anymore. Now, that's some way to market yourselves! He has now set a dangerous precedent, which I am sure many other struggling stars will follow in the future. In his term as a politician, he has just proved how incapable he is when it comes to politics, although I personally never enjoyed his brand of comedy in films too. He was a far better actor in serious roles than in comedy.

  4. haha.. thanks for including those videos...the Pak Chik Pak raja babu...is govindized version of a song in a tamil movie called 'Gentleman'. When someone talks about Govinda one thing that reminds me is..he slapping an upcoming story writer, it was shown in all channels..specially in Aajtak..that slap scene was put in a loop playing it infinite times..well I dont want to comment much on movie stars being politicians. The whole elections has become a drama. In AP almost every party has some actors associated who who have their speeches written by movie dialogue writers ..
    ...everything is fair in democracy..

Yes, under the guise of democracy, people are doing what they shouldn't. I am no expert on politics but we all know that actors and people from other professions do not make such good politicians because they don't know much about the job at all. So, in short, these people are insanely exploiting democracy and that in turn is affecting us.

  7. @rammy, I agree that we got to vote in the most chaste manner to wash off the rotten people in the political arena. But honestly, I have already voted thrice (and no I did not vote govinda despite him being my fav actor) and to my utter disappointment, I have never seen any good person being elected. Everyone is equally rotten and even if they are not, then just like a fresh apple gets rotten when kept with rotten one's; the same way the clean politicans become tainted in the company of tainted politicians.

@parikshith, I wont be surprised if Johnny lever stands for elections or for that matter KRK (only next to SRK)

@gaurav, yes actors can never be good politicians. And as you rightly pointed out, if an actor or cricket star wants to join politics they need to quit their profession altogether

@unknown, u welcome...i guess all love that pak chik pak raja babu song. Yes I know, actors can never be good politicians. Sad our constituency became a bakra of his mismanagement.

@sangi, bingo! u hit the bull's and goat's eye. The money must have been spent on production houses...

  8. I'd totally disagree with this statement "actors and people from other professions do not make such good politicians".
It's not something at DNA level that only those selected few can be good politicians.
Well in democracy any one can contest ,so the actors or doctors or engineers. A person using his past to get votes is all fair. The idea that the person should quit his profession while contesting is already implemented I guess.
Govinda was one failure story and general public should learn from this and should keep this in mind before voting someone.

If you believe so much in the past, than you should also look at the track record of actors/ex-cricket players who have joined politics till date. Almost all of them, apart from a few exceptions have underperformed when it comes to politics. Although it is a democracy, people should still stick to do what they are good at instead of trying to be greedy. And I think its completely unfair on the part of political parties to take undue advantage of a celebrity's past because what they have done in the past hardly ever matters in politics. I shall never vote for parties who pitch in celebrities to contest elections.

  10. @Above :))
..haha... I never knew I was good in athletics till I tried it...I was one of the key players for my institute...similarly I never lead a team..but once I was given leadership my team performed much better...
if everyone thinks what you say "people should still stick to do what they are good at".. then we wouldn't have got independence by now...
when we respect democracy we should accept all aspects of it... there are some -ves and +ves with everything.. An ideal system according to you should be country ruled by IAS officers only..where each candidate is filtered from a rigorous process..but that again has its own negatives...

finally...actors are better than illiterate goons...

  11. I watch Govinda's 'classics' when ever I need a hearty laugh...hahaha...they deserve an oscar for non sense ...lol!

  12. @unknown, well i am skeptical man about actors becoming politicians. Barring Late Sunil Dutt who was a gem of a man both as an actor as well as a politician...but I cant say the same about others such as Govinda, Vinod Khanna, Raj bhabbar. Basically they join politics not b'coz they wish to do something goood, it's just that they get a) good contacts for reviving their sagging career and b) if not through movies, they get their share of limelight through politics. Yes every sphere is corrupt and we must overlook them and see the positives. But tell me where's the positive?? Yes they are better off than those illiterate politicians, but then how does that matter? We need change which even the actors are not capable of bringing in.

@ gaurav, you say you wont vote for parties that pitch in celebrities for winning elections, but yaar every party will pitch in celebrities if now but atleast 15 days before elections. So all we can do is assess our candidates and accordingly vote.

@AS...LOL chalo accha hain, I am not the only person who loves Govinda, I have a companion. I am happy :)

@rammy...sorry dude, had skipped that 49-0 clause that you mentioned about. Sadly, one of my friend who studies law says that they are no more viable. The cluase has been scrapped. Though we need to cross-check.

And also, I did mention that there are a few exceptions like Rajnikanth who knows a lot about politics and has been actively involved in political activities since 1995, although he has not been a politician himself. I really respect him for the stance he took in the controversial cauvery river case. We need people like him to stand up for the elections irrespective of his profession. But I guess, since he is so involved into films, he doesn't feel that he would be able to commit himself to politics and hence his refusal to join politics as a leader, which is a great decision. We need people like him and not stars who don't have an iota of knowledge about serving people. We need people who can serve us well. We pay taxes and hence it is our right to be annoyed with fools being projected as our representatives. Government is our employee and not vice-versa. We need people who understand our pulse, our problems and who can solve a majority of the nation's issues without being too selfish. We need people who can sacrifice themselves to the cause just like the army, navy or the air force do. I do not want stars to have the share of their limelight and do nothing for the people as leaders.

  14. govinda is an entertainer - oneof the very few bollywood heroes can tolerate. he should have kept fit and stuck to acting. politics is not about entertaintment.
good he has decided against contesting.
